| What is "Lake Effect" snow? When the prevailing winter winds come across Lake Michigan's warmer waters, moisture is captured and carried into the higher elevation where we live...it then drops it in "bands". Which means the sun may be shining 200 feet from where you are, but you are seeing a blizzard.....and great amounts of snow in a short period of time. Driving on hard packed snow is a fact of life up here in the winter....all goes well unless, for some reason, you need to stop your car in a hurry....NOT!!! |
